My Studying Methods

Tomorrow I have a quiz on some chemical symbols and names for chemistry.  In 30 minutes I am going to go eat dinner.  And for my next trick, I shall successfully teach myself 20 elements and their abbreviations. Here we go.

Titanium- Ti.  Ti 84 calculators are made of titanium. (Well, idk if they actually are but humor me.)

Vanadium- V lets see... no other elements starting with V. "V is for vandium, and its good enough for me..."

Chromium- Cr. Cromium. Chromium.. Google cromium?

Manganese- Mn Manga+Japanese=Manganese.

Iron- Fe... When you buy an iron, you have to pay a fee. Iron=Fe.

Cobalt- Co. Cobalt & Co. Your favorite cobalt provider since 1922

Nickel- Ni The nights who say Ni wear nickel armor. "We are the nights who say ni!"

Cu- Copper. Mini Copper. Mini Cuper. (yes i know its spelled wrong.)

Zn- Zinc. There's a Zinc in my Sink.  (If you know what Dr. Seuss book I'm referencing, points for you!)

As- Arsenic. Arse is brittish for ass. Arsenic. Assenic. As. (I apologize for the vulgarity.  But just know that from now on you will never forget the abbreviation for arsenic.)

Se- Selenium- sometimes there is no clever way to remember so you just have to say SE selenium SE selenium SE selenium repeatedly while marching around your room like a mad man. SE selenium SE selenium SE selenium

Br Bromine. Broooooomine.  The chemical element of bros. Brr. Cold bros who fell off their surfboards.

Kr Krypton. Superman... Kryptonite... Krypton. Kr. Kr. Kr Kr Kurt! Glee is on tonight. Kr Kr Kr It's also the only K one.

Rubidium- Rb. I have an RV that's made of Rubiduim. Only its not an RV, its an RB. Yes? No? I don't know...

Sr. Strontium. Senior Strontium strived to strengthen his strawberry. Sr. ....(shrugs helplessly)

Zr Zirconium. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Zr Cone E Um. Oh, I know. When Gorillas growl, they say "grrr." When zebras growl they say "Zrrrrrr."

Mo Molybdenum. Molly Be Denim. Mo be Corduroy.

Ag- Silver. Ag is an abbreviation for the Latin "argentum" meaning "grey" or "shining." The American Girl doll came in a silver box.

Cd- Cadmium "Hey did you hear about that new band Cadmium? They made a CD!"

Sn- Tin. Last one... I can totally do this. Sn -> Sin. Sintin. Sentinel.

And that, for those of you who are still reading this post and haven't left me for more entertaining youtube videos or pictures of cats, is how you teach yourself chemical elements.  Or I suppose you could just read the textbook and take notes... but where's the fun in that?

  2. Wow, those are actually pretty good. I wish I had known these when memorizing the entire periodic table, Molybdenum always tripped me up.
